What is PE and Sports premium?<\/u><\/p>\n

The government has provided funding of \u00a3150 million per annum since the academic year 2013\/14 with a view to provide new and substantial primary school sport funding. The funding is jointly provided by the Department for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and sees the money going directly to Primary School Head-teachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for\u00a0all their pupils. <\/strong>This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.<\/p>\n

How will the funding be spent?<\/u><\/p>\n

At Beech Hill School, we have developed an action plan to ensure that the money is spent on initiatives which will have a long lasting impact on the future learning and physical development of children within our school.<\/p>\n

A proportion of the funding has been spent on increasing water safety for our year 3 children before they start their statutory swimming lessons in year 4. Children attend a local private swimming pool to begin to develop their confidence in water. They learn to master the basics of water safety before beginning to learn the techniques. In addition, we have purchased a new scheme of work – \u00a0Real PE \u2013 to improve our children\u2019s fundamental movement skills (agility, balance, and co-ordination). Staff will have CPD throughout the year to build their confidence and knowledge in PE.<\/p>\n

Changes to the funding<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

In July 2017, the Government officially announced it was going to increase the amount of Sports Premium funding given to schools. This year, Beech Hill will receive\u00a0 \u00a320, 440 <\/strong>to spend on improving the overall quality of sport an PE for all pupils.<\/p>\n

Sports Day<\/h3>\n

A great achievement this year has been working closely with Deanfield Community Primary School which are a school in our trust. During sports week, each year group travelled to Deanfield School to take part in Sports Day which was a huge success. Children took part in their tree groups and competed against each other in a range of activities such as: tug of war, javelin, obstacle courses and a range of athletic games. A large number of parents came to support, and a follow up survey was conducted. Money was used for prizes, refreshments and resources to support the week which will be kept for years to come The event was a huge success with a parents and staff.<\/p>\n

Tour de Yorkshire<\/h3>\n

On Sunday 6th May, our Year 6 children took\u00a0part in the Tour De Yorkshire parade\u00a0at the Piece Hall on Sunday.\u00a0 They were part of the warm up race before the professional’s started Stage 4.\u00a0They rode their bikes past over 4,000 cheering fans at the Piece Hall and then onto the roads. They were met by thousands of spectators and they had a once-in-a-lifetime experience.<\/p>\n
